Reading

Here are an assortment of books that I was in some way moved by. Some are slightly older reads, but still fantastic.

If you are looking for some good non-fiction, maybe one of these is a good next read!

In an Unspoken Voice
How the Body Releases Trauma and Restores Goodness
- Peter A. Levine

Levine explains the nature and transformation of trauma in the body, brain and psyche. In an Unspoken Voice is based on the idea that trauma is neither a disease nor a disorder, but rather an injury caused by fright, helplessness, or loss that can be healed by engaging our innate capacity to self-regulate high states of arousal and intense emotions.

Come as You Are
- Emily Nagoski

Sex educator and researcher Nagoski delves into the science of sexual well-being, focusing on understanding the complexity of sexual response, desire, and pleasure.  The exploration of how our bodies, minds, and societal influences shape our sexual experiences teamed with acceptance, self-awareness, and the understanding that there is no "right" or "wrong" way to experience sexual pleasure makes this a must-read. It encourages women (and all individuals) to embrace their sexuality as it is, rather than trying to conform to unrealistic standards or expectations.

"The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culture"
- Gabor Maté

"The Myth of Normal" explores how societal norms and expectations contribute to physical and mental health issues, often masking the underlying trauma that many people experience. Maté argues that what is considered "normal" in modern society—such as work pressures, consumerism, and disconnection from our authentic selves—is actually unhealthy and can lead to chronic illness, addiction, and emotional distress.

He encourages a more compassionate, holistic approach to healing, one that addresses not just the symptoms but the root causes of pain in the body and mind.

The book challenges conventional views on health, advocating for a deeper understanding of how trauma shapes our lives and the importance of reclaiming personal well-being in a society that often promotes disconnection and stress.
